vicodin vs. oxycotton and/or percosetsmy friend is currently taking 8 750mg. vicodin's a day. what is this equivalent to in oxycotton's and/or percosets? ( categories: Discussion of Prescription and OTC Meds )
Just to clear up the
Just to clear up the obvious, taking 8 7.5/750 Hydrocodone/apap combinations is pretty much killing your liver. The max safe amount of apap in an acute setting is 4000mg, and at this rate, your friend has taken 6000mg of acetaminophen a day. That also translates out to 60mg of hydrocodone, not 750mgs of hydrocodone. That being said, hit the search button and find Rawoody's conversion chart to calculate on your own what the rought amount of oxycodone would be. Converting from Hydrocodone to Oxycodone SR is kind of a crap shoot at best. Gtrplayer I would suggest using This
I would suggest using This Calculator Sorry, but I'm not a Dr. nor am I a pharmacist. For me to be giving advice about this would be like having your weather forecaster perform open heart surgery. And, just for precision, the oxycodone extended release drug is "Oxycontin", not Oxycotton. Percoset=Percocet Gtrplayer I agree with
I agree with gtrplayer....thats alot of apap to be taking. Hard to believe a doctor would prescribe that much of the 7.5/750. If he has to take 8 a day it looks like they would try him on norco or something that has a smaller amount of apap because that could damage your liver. Which Im not a doctor just giving my opinion. The last thing I would
The last thing I would immediately advise wouldn't be to increase the ammount of hydrocodone in your daily regiment. This month I asked my Primary Care to reduce my APAP to 325. Right now I take 4 Lortab 7.5/325 APAP daily. Reduced from 500mg of APAP. I was on Percocet for about 2 months, but I just couldnt stand the headaches, and plus I dont like taking anything that begins with OXY just because of the terrible addiction stories you can hear from people. I have recieved the Norco 10/325's and I would have to say they dont seem to work as well as the Lortab 7.5/325. The less hydrocodone in your system, the better off you are. If 7.5 does not effect the pain anymore then an increase may be in order, but always consult your doctor first.
Please Note: I am no where near a licensed PHD. You should have noticed that by my spelling and grammar alone. I am only here to offer any advice I can from being someone on a daily regiment. Do not take my advice like you would from a professional. And always consult your doctor before making any kinds of moves on your medication. We are dealing with serious stuff here, and from making our own moves can become our own path of self destruction.
The next logical step in
The next logical step in medications would be to move up to Hydrocodone 10/325mg or similar, of course give or take on the APAP. Usually doctors wont allow that much APAP but sometimes if the duration of how long the patient will take such a drug is short than some doctor's won't worry to much about acute liver failure although I definitely would, this is why it is important to be forward with your doctor especially when it comes to daily APAP intake. If Hydrocodone doesn't not seem to work most doctors move up to Oxycodone (Percocet or something deriving from the Oxycodone family. Oxycodone is nearly 1.5x stronger than Hydrocodone.
