Also, 10mg of hydrocodone would be Vicodin HP, Norco 10, or Lortab 10, depeding on the amount of acetaminophen. Not pure Vicodin.
Technically, of course.

Between a hydrocodone/apap 10/325 (watson 853[generic for Norco 10/325]) and oxycodone/apap 10/325 or 10/650 (generic for Percocet 10/325 and 10/650) I'm not sure if the 10mg percocet you are bring offered is a 10/325 or a 10/650? I know for a fact the watson 853 is generic for Norco 10/325. To put it simply, 10mg oxycodone or Percocet is equivalent to approx. 15mg hydrocodone or 1 1/2 Norco 10/325. Vicodin brand names come only in 5/500 7.5/750 and 10/660mg tablets and are Vicodin, Vicodin ES and Vicodin HP. Norco also comes as 5/325, 7.5/325, and 10/325. Percocet comes in 2.5/325, 5/325, 7.5/325, 7.5/500, 10/325, and 10/650mg strengths. I would ask about the 10.325 strength as that way you won't end up overdosing on the tylenol if you need to take it often or for an extended time period. I have much experience with all these meds so feel free to PM me if you have questions you don't feel comfortable posting on the forum, otherwise I hope this was helpful or beneficial to you in some way.

Vicodin HP has 660 of Acetaminophen. But you're right, the Norco and their generics are better for long term usage, unless you are not fond of your liver.

oxycodone (the narcotic in percocet) is about 1.5 times stronger than hydrocodone (the narcotic in vicodin). go for the percocets
oops, you are correct gtrplyr. I meant to say 10/660 for the vicodin hp. I must have accidentally hit the 5 key instead. Thanks for pointing that out.
Hydrocodone or oxycodone, that is a difficult question. Although oxycodone is a stronger drug than hydrocodone, the effects are slightly different. Oxycodone is a schedule II drug whereas hydrocodone is a schedule III. The higher the schedule the stronger the drug. The real question is, how bad is your pain and have you ever taken pain medication before. If you have a low tolerance for pain medication, then I would suggest the Lortab. However, if you have severe pain and do have at least some tolerance to Lortab then I would take the Percocet.
Just always remember to monitor your acetaminophen intake. You should never take more than 4 grams (4,000 mg) per day, especially if you drink more than 2-3 times per week. In fact in recent studies they have shown that taking 2.4 or more grams per day without alcohol over long periods will have severe effects on your liver.
This info is just fyi, hydrocodone and oxycodone can be dangerous, but you need to worry about the acetaminophen (Tylenol) content that you take in daily more. I have seen many patients with acetaminophen jaundice. When taking any narcotic pain med always go for the lowest acetaminophen level, like Norco 10/325 for hydrocodone and Percocet 10/325 for oxycodone. Of course if you go to oxycontin, roxycontin, morphine, dilaudid, demerol, or other meds like it by mouth you don't have to worry about acetaminophen because there is none. With these last few meds you just have to worry about your tolerance and how many you take.
Anyway, I saw that you have a lot of good answers already. Hope I may have helped you.
Why don't we Link to your other post so you can view them simultaneously and make a decision.
If you don't want to take the Percocet or Hydrocodone, why not just ask for OxyIR or an immediate release version of Oxycodone? They make a preparation that doesn't contain any acetaminophen with hydrocodone, that is not a slow release.

pillrn: I think you have your schedules reveresed for the oxy and the hydro. When we go to get our oxy perscription we have to physically go to our doctors office and get his hand written perscription on this paper that I swear is the same paper money is printed on, very secure. When we go in for Norco scrip the doctors office can just call it in.
Although the wording was a little confusing, Pillrn is right. Oxycodone is a CII and Hydrocodone is a CIII. Also not all states use triplicate or "special" prescription pads for CII. You are right though that CII cant be called in but CIII can.
In an emergency situation some states do allow physicians to call in CII medications but only for a small amount.
They can be phoned in like you said, in an emergency situation, but it must be followed up with a hard copy within 72 hours.

so let me see if i am understanding you correctly... are you trying to figure out which one of the two is stronger (between 10mg hydrocodone and 10mg oxycodone)?
if that is the question then the answer is the 10mg of oxycodone w/ apap also known by the brand name percocet.
oxycodone (main ingredient in percocet) is approximately 1.5 to 2 times stronger than hydrocodone (main ingredient in the different types of vicodin, loratab, lorcet et cetra).
