Darvocet/ Darvocet N ----Opoid comparisonHowdy, I haven't posted in a while, and I guess that is good as I haven't needed to take any medicine. Just got an RX for Darvocet, but had it filled generically, it says Propoxy-N/APAP 100-650. So, I thought I'd check with you guys and compare this with codeine (what I'm most familiar with) but I don't think I found it...? And now I'm wondering what is the "N" on the category of pill?
I am pretty sure the "650" is the APAP part, acetemin., right? Thanks for any help. ( categories: Discussion of Prescription and OTC Meds )

per milligram it is about a quarter of the strength of codiene. so your 100 mg darvocet is almost equal to 30mg codiene. i cannot remember what the N is for but do remember that it is irrellevant. all thoughts and opinions expressed are those of my own and should not be mistaken for medical advice. i am not a doctor nor a pharmacist. all medical questions should be answered by a licensed pharmacist, doctor, or primary care manager. that is exactly what it is
that is exactly what it is for. i forgot. i am slow today (monday). all thoughts and opinions expressed are those of my own and should not be mistaken for medical advice. i am not a doctor nor a pharmacist. all medical questions should be answered by a licensed pharmacist, doctor, or primary care manager. I also believe that drugs may have "salt" forms like napsylate, HCl (hydrochloride), bitartrate, sulfate, etc. that are chemically used to regulate how fast the particular drugs (molecules) they are attached to will dissolve and be ready for absorption into your system. Some of these salt forms make the drugs less or more soluble than others. Propoxyphene nap[sylate is a
Propoxyphene nap[sylate is a deifferent chemical preapation than the traditional propoxyphene hcl as found in davron, wygesic etc. 65mg propxyphene hcl is equivalent to 100mg propoxyphene napsylate. I find that this drug especially in high doses has some nasty side effects. I makes me agitated, and makes me feel almost ifI'm going crazy if I take more than 4 pills in 24hrs which I need to do as it is not very potent and did not provide adequete pain relief with one tablet. I was then advised to take 2 three times a day. Also, if I'm not mistaken propoxyphene containing products are a C IV controlled substance, as where all other opiate anagesics such as codeine, hydro, oxy, moprhine, hydromopone, etc. are all either a C III or class II unless its a codeine cough syrup which is a C V in most cases. PDX darvocet are underated
if you havent been taking any meds for pain stick with darvocet.youll hear allot of smack talked about darvs but iv been taking them for a couple of years, and my grandmother has for like 17 years and i picked up most those scripts. people say they suck or their dangeraus or both. like i tell my freinds stay on darvocet as long as you can befor "upgrading" to vicoden or percocet. the pain releif they provide is really good and they are in no way a "placebo pill" simply takeing one on a completly empty stomuch will disprove eney placebo or asprin like nonsence.youll understand exactly why their a narcotic, tho a milder one.i think the dangeraus stuff comes from abusing them,650 of tylonol each comperd to 325 can make the diferance. in my opinion those "no better than asprin" studys were paid for by people who have an intrest in you taking a much more habit forming medication. percocet, vicoden and so on.if you look at people who say they dont work they are often people who have been taking pain medication for a very long time and have high tolerences to much stronger pills, and for them im know they are truthfull when they say they do nothing.if you go long enuff, one percocet will do nothing. i have both darvs and vics but but i chose to take darvs. after time you will have withdrawl if you stop but its nothing compeird to vics or percs. i think vics are 35% better for pain but 350% more adictive.personaly unless its absolutly needed i wont commit to vicoden. and believe me if its long term it is a commitment for better or worse.iv had plenty of freinds prove that to me......i know allot of people disagre with me and if you do please send me a comment, unless my new spine specialist tells me to swich ill be on darvs for years to come...i have ddd, athritis and im only 27. darvon
I used to get the darvons from a guy i worked with to take just for fun, as u all prob know the darvon has no apap, and id try to get the pale yellow coating off the pills which was a messy pain in the butt. Then I would take them and they definately felt different than any opiate ive ever taken, and ive taken just about all of them. you could tell it was a totally synthetic pill compared to some others, it just felt weird and like someone else said there are a lot of side effects from it, i personally dont like them, and I have taken them also for pain and gotten no relief. mdonia I agree that for me
mdonia I agree that for me they were utterly useless as a pain releiver. The last time I had taken them were decades ago and I had absolutly no tolerance at all with narcotics and I thought codeine was useless for moderate pain. Thse are worse IMO the N stands for NO RELEIF
I am not sure what the N stands for but in comparison to codeine like products I would say its like comparing a Vicodin to a Flinstones Vitamin. Although it is an opoid it is at the bottom of the ladder so to speak. Hope you get some releif from your pain. |
