Hello all, I have a question...Today i had a dr appointment for my left knee. I had xrays taken and the results show that my knee cap is almost on its side causing serious pain. He gave me a cortisone shot and asked my what i would like for the pain. I told him that i have allergies to codine and that in the past hydrocodone upset my stomach so he asked me if i would like percocet 5/325 or if i would like oxycodone 5mg hcl. I said i would like the oxycodone 5mg because i didnt want to be takin apap all the time he told me to take 1 to 2 pills twice a day as needed for pain and to take a ibuprofin 600 in between as needed. He then told me to make a follow up appointment for three months and to go to physical therapy twice a week for 2 months and then he told me to call him in appx a month for a script refill for 120 oxycodone 5mg. My question is it a usuall occurance for a Dr visit to be that easy and quick and for a doctor to ask me what type of pain killer that i wanted to take. I know i see posts all the time with people stressing grief with their doctors and not able to get the pain meds they need? I was just very surprised to be that easy to speak to and get pain meds. And on top of it my appt was at 11:45 and I got there at 10:00 and they took me and i was done by 11:00 which really surprised me. I just really had that one quick question and to show that there are good doctors out there in which I have never had a dr that i liked or liked me. I am 25 and look very young so usually if i see a dr they say if your here just for narcotics forget about it.....
well thanks for your time have a wonderful day everyone, i havnt been a member long but I go to the site everyday and read the posts, medicine fascinates me and i love reading all the information
NO NOT NORMAL, BUT IT DEPENDS A LOT ON WHAT STATE YOU ARE IN (PROB. NOT FLA.) AND WHAT THEIR RECENT LEGAL WOES HAVE BEEN TOWARD DOCTORS (IN THAT STATE)...BUT REMEMBER, THIS ISN'T SOMEONE "CLAIMING" THEIR NECK HURTS FROM WHIPLASH...YOU HAVE A VISIBLE DEFORMITY IN YOUR KNEE (X-RAYS AND ALL) SO HE KNOWS HE IS IN THE CLEAR, AND THAT HE CAN NOT HAVE A LEGAL PROB EVEN IF YOU ABUSE THE MED (WHICH ISN'T HIS FAULT)... SO WHILE CERTAINLY DIFFERENT (AND REFRESHING) TO HEAR THIS STORY...MOST OF THE COMPLAINING YOU HEAR ABOUT IS FROM BACK, NECK, AND ODD DISEASE PAIN LIKE FIBROMYALGIA(SP?) OR OTHERS WHERE THE PAIN FELT IS VERY DISCRIMINATORY AND THE POOR PATIENTS ARE OFTEN TREATED AS THOUGH THEY ARE NOT IN BAD PAIN (THIS AND SOME STATES LIKE FLORIDA ARE PROSECUTING MANY DOCS FOR PAIN MEDS)...SEE WITH YOURS THE DOC JUST HAS TO POINT TO THE KNEE CAP AND ANYONE WITH EYES CAN SEE WHY HE PRESCRIBED THE MEDS...NOT SO WITH THE OTHERS... SO I SUSPECT THAT PLAYED A PART
some doctors are cool like that. I know I am 23 and also look younger than I am. I have chronic back pain and have seen many dr.'s. I, too have allergies to codiene and hydrocodone can also cause me to have an upset stomach. So I have to take oxycodone. I have had some dr.'s who give me a second glance when I ask about this for a pain med. I've had dr's say "I dont feel somfortabl rx'ing oxycodone and say here some norco 10/325, take it with phenergan for nausea, and some give me 10 percocets expecting them to last a month. On the flipside, I've had dr.'s offer me oxycontin on the first visit and once was given a rx for 60 30mg IR oxycodone on my first visit to a doc. Out of the 5-6 pcp's that I have had in the past 3 years (insurance and relocation reasons), 4 of them had no problem giving me a large quantity of oxycodone right off the bat, 1 of them flat out refused, but gave me norco, and one gave me a very small supply. So, to answer your question, there are many variables. Your dr. of course, where and when they were educated, where you live, your age and presence, and your medical records can all play a role in a doctors decision of what and how many meds to rx. Then again, some dr.'s just don't beleive in narcotic use, and some are all for it.
