Praise: I must take a couple of lines to thank Kirby,Phisher,Incognito, and Gtrplayer for taking the time to impart your knowledge to this forum. I've never had to post before because EVERY time I come here I find EXACTLY what I am looking for and so much more. I offer my sincere thanks for your tenacity here.

Pill Ident: pill is very small white round with no defined edges (like an egg but round) blank on one side the other has a yellow/orange dot on it with 080 on it in rather bold lettering. the dot almost looks like a sticker that had been put on the pill,,,,any ideas? I can try to send a pix if not.

Term Clarification: i was reading a thread the other night and came across the term "half-life" regarding a medication. Can someone briefly clarify that for me. I apologize if that question has been asked a million times.

thanks again

I'm not sure on the pill

I'm not sure on the pill ident but halflife is half of the time it takes for your body to remove the drug from you system.

Halflife: the time required for half the atoms of a radioactive substance to disintegrate or the length of time it takes for a radioactive substance to lose one-half of its radioactivity

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the kind words.

Thanks for the kind words.  I haven't been able to find the tablet you are describing yet, but for some reason I think I have seen the tablet before.

As for the clarification of "Half-Life" and how it relates to medicine,  here is an excerpt taken from Sonata.com

Quote:
Half-life is the time it takes for half the medicine to leave your body. Medicines with longer half-lives stay in your body longer.
The rest of the paragraph goes on to say that "with sleep aids, the longer the half life, the longer the potential for side effects".  But this definition of half-life is true for all medicines, not just sleep aids.

Pill shape

"pill is very small white round with no defined edges (like an egg but round)

So the pill is shaped like a marble? Can you see through it? Is it filled with liquid?

080, 086 or 08 Whatever

Sorry, makeitbetter, but there isn't much to match your image and imprint description.

Your pill will probably be very hard to identify because the 'printed' imprints rub off and tend to look like something else.

It looks like there is a line under the 08X so that leads me to believe it's marked with numbers that are easily transposed. Of course, the visible 0 and 8 look about the same in either direction, so it's possible the last number is a 6 or a 9.

I did find 086 which is bisacodyl 5 mg, and it's a round orange tablet. Bisacodyl tablets are very small and have a white interior. So I guess it's possible most of the coating on your tablet was wiped off leaving the orange 'sticker' with most numbers intact. But this is only a guess since there is nothing else in the databases.

We'll keep looking, but usually the printed imprints on coated tablets are hard to find since the marks (and coatings) are so unstable.

I photographed TCL 003 a couple of weeks ago and had to go through an entire bottle of 100 tabs to find two that were decent enough to photograph. On most of them the 'L' was worn away (brand new sealed bottle of pills!), and the rest of the imprint was like scattered dots in places making it impossible to read.

Sorry, but so far that's the best I can find right now.Frown

Thanks Kirby

While I have a fairly decent camera, I couldn't get a closer shot w/o a tripod.  Looking at the pill under a magnifying glass is how I came up with the 0 at the end, it looks like its been rubbed off.  While I'm sure anything is possible, I'm almost positive that there was no more orange on the pill exterior.  Oh well, it's just my curiosity anyway.  I knew if I was gonna find an answer-this would be the place.Smile  I'm sure one of these days it will pop up here and the mystery will be solved.  Thanks Much

Here is a picture of a Perrigo brand laxative, with 086 as the imprint.

I filed away part of the coating to show that your pill may have, at one time, had the same coating.

Add my Thanks

I'd like to add my thanks to makeitbetter's OP. This group of posters mentioned is the BEST, Kirby, Gtrplayer, Phisher.  I'd like to add Team Pharmer to this group for keeping it all professional and 4andsic as well as solo...........for some very helpful IDs with pictures......It is amazing.  I've read back on Incognito posts and see some great stuff, taking place mostly before I've been around.  Last but not least js57 for her obvious caring and helpful attitude towards everyone.

All of these folks have a knack for finding such obscure pills and IDing them.  I am always absolutely impressed......I'd particularly like to thank Gtrplayer for some personal attention in a few PMs.

I would not be surprised if the work you guys all do here has saved a life somewhere along the line, whether from stopping someone from taking something dangerous, to whatever.........

Thank you all.

Thanks, thelifeline.  I

Thanks, thelifeline.  I appreciate the kind words!  We all love to help when we can.  ID'ing pills is a different hobby, but it is fun nonetheless.

thank you too, thelifeline!

thank you too, thelifeline! It's great to be recognized for adding something alittle different here, which is what I try to do. I'm not too great with ID's or pharmacology, but I still like to help people, even if at times people take me the wrong way at first. You're not too bad yourself, thelifeline!

I have to say, I love getting the PM where people have more personal problems or questions, and ask my advice or help! Keep it coming...
