Some help with amoxicillin pill

Hey guys im 17, well i have an infection on my toe and been taking amoxicillin - clavulanic Acid (Apo-Amoxi Clav)875/125MG, ingrown toenails cause my nail grows in messed up. Well my mom cut all my pills in half cause i can't swallow a whole pill cause their huge and they have a writting on them(pills), on the top it shows APO some say APC and some on the bottom(pills) say A/C and some say A/O and i never noticed this so i've been taking them not together and i only have the letter A's left cause i've taken all the C/O's. so i was wondering does this matter? is the stuff through-out the pill or just in that one side of it? does this matter or can i take 2 halfs that do not match cause i've read that the clav fights off the body from stopping the amoxichillin so is this clav only in one porsion (side) of the pill? or is all of it mixed intogether. I've been taking it for awhile now, i only have 5 days left, I'm taking it for 2weeks.

If you can help thanks

Is this what your pill looks

Is this what your pill looks like?

I can't find where there is any indication as to which drug is on what side of the score line. However, most medicines with a score, it is safe to cut the medicine in half. I've not seen a SR medication with a score mark, so that is what I am basing this on.

I think that if you scored the tablet, you are basically getting half of a full dose, regardless of which side you are taking.

try This link and click on the fifth medicine down. There's really not a lot of information as to where the ingredients lie in relation to the score mark.

Yes thats what the pill looks like, so if i'm taking two of the same side of the pill A/C, so two A's will this be the same as taking the a|c together?

i think i've seen acouple A|O's tho whats up with that? and i only have A| left lol

Honestly, ShawnZ, I don't

Honestly, ShawnZ, I don't know what's up with the A l O's.  Are you in Canada?  I'm terrible at Canadian meds.  Kirby, Phisher, and Incognito are your best bets for any conclusive answer about the A l O's.  I've seen the imprint before, but I just kind of skimmed through it.

As far as, "is it the same as taking one whole tablet (sic)"?  I'm not really sure, but I would think so.  I don't know why they would score a pill to be split that would be stronger on one half than another.

I assumed you were from

I assumed you were from Canada because most, if not all, of the APO (Apotex) pills are from Canada.

Good luck in finding a concrete answer.  Unfortunately, that's the kind of question that, unless I'm just flat out missing it on their website, will be difficult to answer with any certainty.

And you're welcome for my attempted help. Feel free to vote in our poll by the way.  You can access it by clicking Home in the top left corner of the page, and looking under the Active Forum Topics section.

Pill splitting

As a 40 year Nurse I must tell you that theoretically if a pill is scored it doesn't matter which side you take when.   However, the current recommendation is to take the halves in sequence so that in any 24hour period you are getting the whole original pill.  I agree with gtr that it is unlikely that you have caused any trouble because the meds are supposed to be evenly distributed within the tablet/pill.

Hey ShawnZ,    This is

Hey ShawnZ,

This is just from my personal experience with Penicillin type antibiotics.  But, I know that they always left a metallic taste in my mouth after I took them, especially if they got "caught" halfway down my throat.

I'm not a nurse, or a doctor, so I don't really have the credentials to answer this.  But, if you're almost done with your 2 week dose of antibiotics, and this is the first "weird" thing you've experienced while taking your medicine, I doubt that it is a reaction to the medication.

If you are getting a sore throat, you very well may be getting a cold.  I don't know how the weather is in Canada (I always imagine it to be freezing up there for some reason), but I know right now where I'm at (Indiana), we've gone from 75 degrees a week ago, to 30 degrees right now, and it's playing all kinds of havoc on most of my family and friends' sinuses.

Thank you for the comment in the poll.  Isn't it strange how there are 133 guests online yet only 11 votes?  Take care my friend, and I'm interested in seeing what Mimilou may have to tell you.  But, since she is a nurse, I would definitely take her advice over mine.  Like I said, I read the medical books on free time during the day (I work midnights), so I very well could misinterpret a lot of what I read.

    Take care my friend.

Amox

Gtrplayer is quite eloquent and I agree with what he said.  The clavulanate in the amox can cause some tongue rawness, but so can all the URI germs running around about now!!!!
