Hello Ladies and Gents, this is a great site especially with the breakdown of the common imprints. I've used that chart as a reference on a plethora of occasions. I'm currently on oxycodone 5mg/325mg TID and have been so for the past few months. I feel that I'm developing a tolerance and not getting the same relief as I did for the first couple of months. My GP seems kind of cool and I'm thinking about asking for an increase from TID to QID or for an increase to 7.5/325 TID. I was wondering what experience do any of you have in similar type situations when discussing such matters with your doctor. For example, how long have you waited or had to wait to get a higher dosage or quantity when on a regime with your doctor ?
Also, have any of you noticed any real difference between oxycodone w/ acetaminophen OR just regular immediate release oxycodone. Is 5mg/325mg comparable to just 5mg oxycodone ? I tend to think that oxycodone with acetaminophen has a synergy effect. And the fact of acetaminophen available OTC for its mild pain relieving quality. Can anyone make a comparison of these two type situations such that more of oxycodone by itself is needed to equal the oxycodone with acetaminophen. I think I read somewhere here in the forum that someone found better relief from oxycodone 5mg IR than its counterpart of 5mg/325mg. Thank you for your time.
Be honest with your doctor. Tell him that your level of relief is not what it was originally. From there I would let the doctor decide what to do with you; making your own suggestions regarding dosage/frequency can raise a red 'drug-seeker' flag. You might also ask about therapies other than drugs. Not all of these will work for you, and some can be expensive, but any time you are willing to use other means than opiates to control your pain, you will be better off in the long run. Your doctor will more likely see you as a 'compliant' patient, and if you can keep your dose from escalating the drugs will work better for longer.
For example, if Lyrica did not give me serious stomach problems, I would be taking it because it reduces my need for opiates by close to 45%.
Another example is migraine headache, instead of drugging the headache into oblivion, I take what I can to reduce the pain enough that I can sleep. Then I go to bed with my meditation CD and sleep until the headache is gone.
I agree let the doctor decide...It is never a good Idea to give them suggestions of how much of what to give...Just tell your Doc it not working long enough...The only time you can make suggestions is if you usually work in the medical field and the doctor knows you and you have a particular conditon that you may have done alot of research on..
If not let them decide, or as crappy as it is you look like a drug seeker
Good luck

Please disregard the second paragraph in the original post. I had forgot that I already asked those questions. I would edit it out if I could but cannot figure out how.
However, please respond to the first paragraph regarding discussing with your doc about a dosage and/or a quantity increase.
