A firend of mine has been on oxycodone for about 2 years now. He had been on percoset for almost 7 years. He also takes davon and diazapam. These are prescriped by his Dr. and Pain Clinic. I'm not sure of all the details of his illness, however, he dependant upon them, and they are prescribed to him.
My question is, his personality is weird. From nice to argumentative. Sometimes, he says things which can be mean and cutting. Other times he is chill. It's hard to deal with. Am I talking to "him" or the meds? How do you deal with it. He is not going to get off the meds so I hope you can give me some advice in dealing with this. He is like a dad to me, and I want to be supportive, but it's hard. Thanks so much for your advice!
He is also taking effexor for depression, depakote, some stomach ulser medicine, blood pressure meds too. (and sleeping pill) All are prescriped by his Dr.
i partially agree with Weazel. i do feel the same way in the sense that some days everything bothers me and other days i tolerate things much better.
i personally have been dealing with chronic pain as well as medicine for a few years now and i would say from my personal experience that my pain or lack of pain intensity dictates more about my mood than my pain meds.
but as weazel mentioned, everyone is a little different.
additionally, you noted that he is on several other medicines besides the oxycodone. that being said, there may be something else going on that is contributing to his erratic behavior, such as a mental condition. of course that is only speculation and i might be reading more into it than i should.
best advice i can give is to sit him down and talk with him about it. he may or may not be aware of your observations. however, regardless if he is aware or not you should let him know how it makes you feel. of course this is just my two cents and nothing more.
good luck and take care.
all thoughts and opinions expressed are those of my own and should not be mistaken for medical advice. i am not a doctor nor a pharmacist. all medical questions should be answered by a licensed pharmacist, doctor, or primary care manager.

Yeah in my own expeirence, when on pain meds, as with any other drug their is noticable irratability. Sometimes things are great and noting bothers me but then other times just the slightest thing can be really annoying. It's never consistent either one day something will drive me nuts and the next day it won't bother me a bit. So I wouldn't take it out on the person to much..... maybe just try talking to them about it? At the same time this might make them angry, so I don't know. Everyone is different so you have to make the call. But do understand it's definetly the meds, but he is making the overall descision to cut you down or whatever he is doing, you can't place all of the blame on the meds but it's definetly a factor. Hope that helps, Weazel
