xanax vs. valiumI have taken valium for flying anxiety. A new doctor wants me to try xanax. What doage of xanax is the equivalent of 5 mg valium? ( categories: Discussion of Prescription and OTC Meds )
Xanax Versus Valium
According to the Benzodiazepine Equivalent Chart at benzo.org.uk, 0.25 mg Xanax equals 5 mg Valium. I'm not a pharmacist or a medical doctor. Valium is almost four time less potent than XANAX. The major difference being the incredible short half life of xanax. Also so far as other benzos go, I'v been told that roughly 1.5mg of Klonopin=2mg Xanax, 1mg Ativan=2mg xanax and 40mg Valium=2mg xanax. ___________________________________________________________________ RxHistory: Whats Up, don't take any sarcasm seriously please. Try this.
I get 10 mg Valium prescribed for anxiety and panic attacks only. To me, they seem to work better than a Xanax unless it is a Xanax Bar which is 2mg. I don't know the dosage of a .5 Xanax but Valium to me is better if I had to choose. Also another even better anxiety drug is Klonopin. They have helped me alot more than either Valium or Xanax. Even the strongest doses of the others. So if you really have the anxiety ask about Klonopin at your next doctor visit. You may not like it , but to me it is the best all around. I agree that Kolonpin
I agree that Kolonpin works the bst for me too, but I take valium for a muscle relaxant as well as for nerves. I don't agree with the equivalent dosages posted above. I would say .5mg xanax is about equal to 7.5 - 10mg valium. I also dont like the "floored" feeling that I get from xanax and valium makes me a more happier camper. I also dont like how xanax has this huge peak and then its just gone leaving you feeling like crap, while valium leaves your body much more slowly making the come down much less noticeable. Xanax has also been proven to be more addicting. Temazpeam (restoril) also works great for me. Especially for long flights. Its a bit more sedating than others an is meant mostly for insomnia but works great for generalized anxiety and has a short half life with no nasty come off effects like with xanax. In the end, its up to you but my policy has always been to take what I know works well and has been efective in the past as opposed to trying something new and not nkowing how I will react. Or ask to try the xanax is your doc prefer you do so and ask for an rx for valium also in case you dont react well to the xanax. Im not sure if your dr. will be willing to do thgis but I have an axcellent rapport with my pcp and we have an great decision making relationship where we are both involved and he pretty much lets me choose the med giving me the risks vs. benefits as long as they are appropriate for my condition. Best of luck but if it is between .5mg xanax and valium, I would try fopr a 10mg valium, or at least 5mg with instructoin to take 1-2 tabs. PDX With my experience with
With my experience with anxiety and panic attacks, Ive taken Xanax,Valium,Ativan,BuSpar,Klonopin and currently take Restoril for sleep. Xanax does seem to work much faster than Valium within an hour but doesnt last as long, Ativan works even faster within about 15-30 minutes. There are also Sublingual Tablets that disolve under your tongue, and those ones work extremely fast 10-20 minutes for the Ativan for me. Klonopin also works faster than Valium and the effects are more mellow and less sedating, but the anti-anxiety effects are far superior and all together the feeling while on it feels "cleaner". It seems though that Klonopin is getting more attention on the streets lately, so you might want to be careful about asking for it, unless you have a good relationship with your Doc. Hope my rambling makes sense and helps. |
