Does anyone have any experience with this drug? My doctor just started prescribing it for chronic pain.

read this it says it is

read this it says it is for rheumatoid arthritis (i cannot spell tonight) here is the lionk for the whole article:   http://www.medicinenet.com/indomethacin/article.htm

DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Indomethacin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reduces fever, pain and inflammation. It is similar to ibuprofen (Motrin) and naproxen (Naprosyn, Aleve). Indomethacin works by reducing the production of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are chemicals that the body uses to cause fever, pain and inflammation. Indomethacin blocks the enzymes that make prostaglandins (cyclooxygenase 1 and 2) and thereby reduces the levels of prostaglandins. As a result, fever, pain and inflammation are reduced. Indomethacin is available in a sustained (slow) release form (Indocin-SR). Indomethacin was first approved by the FDA in January, 1965.

thanks a whole bunch, you're way too kind

Indocin or indomethacin had

Indocin or indomethacin had such bad side effects I almost ended up in the ER but thankfully my dr. had an appt. right away. I felt like my stomach was on fire. Extreme heartburn, nasty stomach feelings and it is not at all pleasant. I would be sure and take it with food, if at all, and it did nothing for my pain. Bottom line< I'd stay away from it and there are much more effective NSAIDS that are much easier on the stomach, Indocin is about the harshest. I would try relafen, diclofenac, or daypro before going this route. I am not a doctor or helth pro but trust me, this medicine has the most unpleasant side effects almost of any med I've ever taken. Be warned!

Indomethacin is an old old

Indomethacin is an old old old NSAID.  I rarely see it used anymore.  It is an interesting choice.  I agree that some of the newer NSAID's have fewer side effects.  Do you know why he chose Indocin?
