Hello Everyone,
Been reading the forum off and on for a few months now and just took the time to register. I have been seeing a local doc for the past year or so due to my RA pain. The RA has been getting worse in the past 6-7 yrs. and the doc I am seeing now started me off on Lortab 7.5 @ 90 per month.
We progressed to 120 a month, then the Lortab 10's up to the now status of 180 per month of Oxycodone for Percocets. Over the past 3 months they just do not provide the releief I need so I end up using more and running short before the next script is due.
I am trying to stay away from the pain patches both because of the cost and I have heard that once you get them othing less will help so I'd be stuck with them untill something else was needed.
I'm really just needing some honest opinions on what else I could try to help with the pain. Once while I ran short I can across the Methodone 10's that really helped alot but after a few days I just did not like the feeling alost like I was in a drunk state. I do take the meds because of the pain I am not after a high been there done that....30 yrs ago...I'm pushing 50+ now.
I am a cash paying customer untill I get approved ...or denied for disability so cost is somewhat a factor but if I have to spend it to get some relief I will. Any comments/advise would be most appreciated.
Thanks, RBNFla
Hi Tuna,
Thanks for the reply! Right now I am @ 10 Mg 6 times a day 180 for a month supply. I sopke with my doc this morning as I am fighting an infection on my leg while we were talking I asked what is my next best course of action and it was her opinion that it was Oxy or the patches both of which I want to avoid.
While was getting my scpipt filled at Winn Dixie Pharm I did ask the price difference between the generic and the name brand price. I was shocked
I pay 241.00 for mine and Name brand was only $730.00. Not that it matters was just wondering is all. I guess I'll just have to tuff it out with the Oxycodone for a while longer. Who know's maybe my case will get approved soon and at least I can get some help medically wise or luck into a clinical trial for the RA.
Thanks again for the reply, interesting site this place is and makes for good reading
Other than Oxycontin (some doc' nervous about dispensing) they also have several morphine ER tablets. Though orally they are not as effective as Oxyconin your doc might write you an agonist for breakthrough pain, of course that would be up to your doctor. Thht is just one option of many
this might be ingenius, but will only work if your only on the 10/325. ask your doctor for 2 at a time. 6 a day, if price is a problem, and you can take morphine, that is relativly cheap, you could do ms ir which is basically just morphine. or you could get a longer acting of that, my doc said that is cheaper, but methadone, being the cheapest. you could try those. but oxycontin is expensive. about 3 dollers for the 20s, 5 or 6 for the 40s and 9 or so for the 80s im pretty sure. so the equivilent in morphine is alot cheaper, you can call like your local walgreens for the price range for, all "narcotic anagelsics, both combination products and immediate release and long acting" they should give you a long list, and just ask for generic for all of em.they should help you out, if you dont have a walgreens try your local pharmacy. i dont think my number for oxycontin is right, well for the generics they are not right, so dont go by those, for my script of 60 20mgs oxycontin were, 63 $ so idk price for generic but they are alot lower, i'll find you the prices for all narcotic analgelsics or at least i'll try. im bored lol and nothings on tv

Just be forewarned - more and more pharmacies won't quote their prices on CII meds over the phone (or even tell you what they have in stock) due to fear of robberies - that's my guess, anyway. Not a problem if you live in the metro area of a larger city where there are pharmacies usually not more than a mile or so from each other, so if you don't mind driving from one to the other to "comparison shop" it's not really a problem. (But also keep in mind that many pharmacies won't price or stock quote unless you have your actual Rx in hand.) I have found that walgreens.com does give price quotes for all drugs (yes, CII's included) usually for amounts like 60 or 120 - so if the amounts you're looking for differ, just do the math to get a price idea. Keep in mind the obviously, prices for meds vary from pharmacy to pharmacy, but usually not by incredibly large amounts. There usually tend to be more of a price difference on the really expensive pharms, like OxyContin and Opana.
Also, Purdue's site has a couple .pdf files called "Information for Vermont Prescribers of Prescription Drugs" that not only price quote Purdue's own products, but also similar drugs in that class of pharms (e.g. Opana and Roxicodone in the Oxycodone-based list, MS Contin, Kadian and Avinza in the Morphine price list.) The links are below.

those were all the prices from walgreens.com, and there was no prices for oxymorphone or oxymorphone er, opana, opana er.

hi, dont know if your still looking at this but I have several hernieated discs in my lower neck and started with the usual vicodin, perc, then went to 20mg oxycontin and now taking 40 mg oxyc, $650 a month, I researched on the web looking for help with the cost and found the purdue Pharma web site, as long as you have no insurance you can apply and for $25 a month I get 90 pills, every little bit helps. and good luck, living everyday in pain bites, I know
Hi RBNFLA, i was gonna say something similar to what HIasc.... said in the last comment about a rx discount card. Someone else posted on here i think it was last week about a website u can go to and apply for a pharmacy discount card. Its not insurance, but it knocks off a little off your script. I had one in maine when i lived there for a year and got denied for their state insurance due to making too much on wcomp. BUT they did send me an rx discount card, now this was thru the state, but there are others that are not state run. Anyways the post about the card is in the recent posts section on page 5 or 6 i think, but all u need is the website which is: PATIENTASSISTANCE.COM This is the website the poster listed to get the card, and they said the savings were pretty good, so maybe u would wanna look into that. just an idea to help u. good luck

Well can you share what dose of oxycodone/percocet you're taking?
Since oxycontin isn't really an option if your paying cash and most extended release pain meds are expensive, you could just simply up your dosage of oxycodone since it comes in a wide vareity of doses (5/7.5/10/15/30mg).... It sounds like your either on a 5mg (6x/day) or 10mg(3x/day) dose of percocet now, so if your on the 5mg dose you could move up to 7.5mg or 10mg. If you're on 10mg you could move up to 15mg.
I did some price checks...
180 of the 15mg oxycodone would be around $100-$125
180 of the 10mg (actually 360 5mg caps) would be $90-$115
180 of the 7.5mg/325mg would be $190-$210
These are VERY rough estimates, I'd advise calling around your local pharmacies to get a better idea.
