Can I respectfully ask for opinions on the best brand of Norco 10/325.  The ones I am familiar with are the Brand by Wason, generic by Watson, generic M367 Mally.  Qualitest V 3601             hmmmmmmmmmm is that it?

Ranbaxy and Interpharm both

Ranbaxy and Interpharm both have approval to manufacture 10/325 according to the FDA. It looks like of the two Interpharm is the only one that actually is. I have no experience with either, but maybe someone else does.

The best of the choices given then

I am getting ready to get a script for Norco filled and usually ask for Watson brand.  I am thinking about asking if they carry Qualitest and getting that.  I've decided not to try to jump to a Class II med, but I want the best Class III Norco that I can get.

If I where you I would get

If I where you I would get the Qualitest. I have always prefered them, even over Watson and more recently Watson/Andrx. With any of the Qualitest brand hydro/apap combos they seem to last longer, "kick in" faster and have more "pain relief". Personally I would compare a Qualitest 5/500mg to a Watson 7.5/750, thats how much more pain relief I seem to get from them. Another little thing, in my area they seem to be the same price as the Watson generics.

I took your advice solo

I remembered that I had gotten Qualitest from my pharmacy before when I "settled" for generic so I kind of knew before I asked, that my pharmacy carried Qualitest.  Looking back the Qualitest was always as good if not better than the Brand Watson Norco but I keep asking for the brand.  The Brand works but the elevator seems to be just short of the top floor.

I did take your advice solo5010, asked for and bought the Qualitest.  They were cheap enough $10 co-pay, Brand co-pay for me is $25.

Did you receive them in the factory bottle? I was wondering if they say Manufactured by Vintage Pharm

Distributed by Qualitest?

Or Manufactured for Qualitest by Vintage Pharm?

Or none of the above.

No but how many is in that bottle

No but how many comes in a factory bottle?  I only got 100.  I get the factory bottle when I get the Brand Watson because 100 each comes in the bottle.  I am going to try to get a few more days supply from my doc, 125-130, so how many come in that Vintage Pharm bottle.  If its the right amount, I can ask for that next month assuming my doc will give me a few more days of pills on my prescription.

If I continue buying Qualitest, my pharmacy can order a factory bottle for me each month.  Sometimes I buy my Norco at the little pharmacy by my docs office, because its convenient.  I don't think they carry the Qualitest so I will not buy from them anymore and consolidate my purchases.  It's just that they are on the way out of my doctors office building and they validate parking....making it easy to use them.

Maybe I could have gotten the factory bottle today, but something tells me there are more than 100 in it, or my pharmacist would have given that to me.  It's easier for him than counting 100 pills.  They are the genuine V 3601.  This particular Norco generic pill by Qualitest has a shiny yellow finish, where their larger, V 3661 pink 10/500 for example has a chaulky dusty "vintage" appearance.

Got sick changing manufacturers for Norco

I also got sick when I filled my script at a different pharmacy. I am used to taking the Norco by QUALITEST(bright yellow oblong, shiny tablet). They say V-3601.   BUT... When I got the pills from another pharmacy they were white and said M367 by Mallinckrodt manufacturer.

The white ones didn't kick-in as fast and didn't last as long either. They made me real nausiated....I don't get them filled using that manufacturer. The price is much higher using qualitest, but well worth it!!!

watson

i have taken these and taken two different kinds, the watson ones ( i won't mention the other company as to avoid denegrating them, b/c most of their other products have worked well for me) but as i said Watson's pharmacuetical narcs are the best along side of name brand in everything i've tried. be;ieve me i've tried alot over the years with a spinal cord injury including two spiral burst fractures and approximately six other breaks or fractures from t-10 - L-5 so unfortunately for a while pain meds were my business and i always requested either name brands or watsons, if availible, on everything. as long as my C-II or C-III was filled with one of those two i was happy camper. there are others i've been less than pleased to the point of returning full bottle to pharm house and demanding that my doc change to daw or write something different. i had a good relationship w/ my PM doc and he'd always oblige if he could. just watch some generics take advantage of the fda allowing them to use 80% of dosage as equivalent to name brand. thanks a whole bunch for listening to my rant you are way too kind. me love you long time

FDA Rule of 80%

I never knew that and it sucks.  You mean generic companies can make this with only 80% of the hydro and get away with it?  No to mention that all the pharmacists swear that they are all the same.  I guess all the pharms don't lower to 80% like they can, or folks wouldn't recommend the Qualitest like they do......Maybe the Mallys that folks complain about do this......I didn't even know that they were allowed to do this.  Anyone else out there know this for a fact?

No, generic hydrocodone must

No, generic hydrocodone must have the same hydrocodone as the name brand.  There is a small variance that is allowed for fillers, but the drug must contain the same amount of active ingredients.

Thelifeline, the Qualitest/Vintage 10/325 is available in 100,500, and 1000 count bottle according to the FDA. Im under the impression that Vintage makes them for Qualitest, but Im also under the impression that they are a joint company.

Now I want one of those bottles

My pharmacy probably only orders the 500 or 1000 count, as they sell more generic than brand (or some reason or other).  Otherwise my pharmacist, whom I've known for years, knows waaaaayyyy too much about me would have taken the easy route and given me the mfgr bottle.

it would have to be QualiTest for any formulation of HydroCodone.

and i do think also that Vintage is part of Qualitest, since the qualitest has that "V" on them.

thelifeline- if you do know

thelifeline- if you do know your pharmacist pretty well, maybe next time you go in you could ask to see an empty bottle?? I'm not sure how they dispose of it, but it there are none left then it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe then you could upload a pic of what the bottle says for everyone else.

Just for my 2 cents; I haven't really had many of the other 10 Norco's. My pharm gives the V3601, and I like it pretty well. Even after a year of them they still work pretty well if that says anything. They are just hard to break b/c of their ends but who really cares about that?

I'm a social worker, not a medical professional. All comments and thoughts are simply my opinion and experience.

Well your brand is the one I chose js57

I think they'll be fine.  I've known the pharmacist for many years, since 1998, I've been doing business. there.  I don't know him personally outside the store, but our friendship in the store is a very friendly professional.  He will either show me the bottle, or next time he'll give me one if they even have the 100 count bottles.  I'd be happy to take a pic of it if I get one.   I'll bet though that they order the 500 ct. bottle or he would have given it to me yesterday.

Looking back I was always satisfied when they gave me the V3601.  Well I was also satistifed with the Brand and the Watson generic too.  Sometimes they just wouldn't have the brand and sometimes I just felt like trying something different.

There's just something about the brand, that leaves me "wanting", can't place it, so I took the advice from the forum.  Everyone seems to swear by the Vintage Qualitest.  Heck I've even taken some expired Qualitest before and they were fine, leftover from when I quit the pills years ago.

Is this true?

>>"just watch some generics take advantage of the fda allowing them to use 80% of dosage as equivalent to name brand"<<

Is this true? Does that mean a company like Mallinkrodt can do this??

Bioequivalence

The 80% - 125% rule is in relation to the bioequivalence of the drug and not the content of the active components.  Bioequivalence is rate and extent of availability after administration in the same molar dose and are similar to such a degree that their effects, with respect to both efficacy and safety. Basically this means how fast it becomes effective into the system and how long it stays there.  Pharmaceutical equivalence implies the same amount of the same active substance(s), in the same dosage form, for the same route of administration and meeting the same or comparable standards.  If someone understands the ruling differently please correct me.

facts from FDA

This is what my pharmy tells me as well. But how come alot of people can tell the difference between the Mallinkdrodt and the Qualitest hydrocodone?

wierd. something just isnt right with them "M"'s. I will not take them and will go out of my way to get the "V"'s. For awhile, I thought it was just me, but now that ALOT of people are agreeeing with me, something is DIFFERENT. Its like I said b4 - the difference between generic soda and PEPSI.

(I am not asking you in specific, since I dont even know what is going on..... but something is...)

the FDA also aproved store-brand foods, which you can tell a big difference there as well.

I'm beginning to think

I'm beginning to think that any brand could feel as if it's not working after we've taken a single brand for a while.  Like the Brand Watson that I have always ordered when they have it.  Lately, it seems that something about its elevator just doesn't go all the way to the top floor.  That has been a recent thing for me that they don't seem to work as well, but maybe I'm tolerant to this particular mix of product.  Who says the fillers don't make any difference?  Everything that you put in your system makes a difference.

Heck maybe its the infusion of so many opinions here suggesting particular brands.....i.e. Qualitest.  I mean I did ask.  I am sure that the Qualitest is good and of course I made my own decision, "but" everything that I've read on this site is in my head.  The knowledge from this site pops up as an answer to a question in the real world now and then.   And "that" is a good thing.

A lot of things can contribute, but maybe our bodies develop different tolerances to the different batches of thebaine  partly because of the particular mixers that are used in any of them.  Maybe some of these otherwise innocuous inactive ingredients have some affect after all.

I've never had any brand that I wanted to take back to the pharmacy, including the m367.  I have found those to work just fine.

Of Course I Am

Solo, yes I am happy with the Qualitest.  Not sure if I can attest to working faster, longer, harder, stronger the whole thing, but I am certain of the quality of the product and satisfied with them over the Watson Brand for now.  I am distracted right now getting some things done so not able to discern delicate differences yet.  In the morning at first dose I will pay special attention.

Not to mention the copay is much less and if I had to actually buy them, it would be incredibly cheaper than the brand.  I had some Vintage 3661s long time ago, that had expired, but worked fine, as well as some 3601s, also expired.  I used to get the odd script for 10/500 rarely before doc became sold on the Norco.  There is a difference in the finish so to speak between 3661, chalky, vintage, dusty, vs the 3601 shiny like the brand.

I'll keep you in the loop.  So from what specifically did you switch from and to ??

Very Interesting fda site

Really good analogy of generic soda and Pepsi, thats right on. I still feel there is a difference, even tho they claim there isn't. Maybe its just a situation  with the hydro meds that there is a noticeable difference, and maybe other generics of other medications are the same quality as the brand names as they claim. I don't really have an opinion on that, but.. in comparing hydro M 10/660's  to the Qualitest 7.5/500's,(which has less of both ingredients too) I found the Qualitest definitely better in strength, longer lasting, and more effective on my pain. Another reason I think there is a difference is because I really wasn't trying to notice anything between the two, and just did..for sure enough to notice. I read a thread here not long ago started by Tunafizzle who also agreed about the difference and was going to do some research on it. I am looking forward to hearing if he finds out anything interesting about it.As I mentioned before, I definitely prefer Qualitest all the way around and is my first choice. I see there are quite a few of us with this same opinion.. just my 2 cents more on it :-)

yes..... and.....

For awhile, i thought I was getting the faKe ones when I got the "M"'s, since sometimes they wouldnt do ANYTHING at all. Ive been taking the "v"'s for over 3 years now, and everytime I take them - they work!

I just cant say that about the "m"'s.

Mallinckrodt verses Qualitest

To ME, there is a BIG difference. I have been on the qualitest brand for 3 yrs. 10/325. When I filled at a different pharmacy that used Mallinckrodt as the manufacturer, the pills made me sick....took forever to kick-in, and didn't last as long.

Does anyone know which pharmacies use the qualitest brand for filling Norco? Or can I request that my script is filled using qualitest brand at any pharmacy I go to????????

I moved from AZ to CO and used to fill at CVS pharmacy, which used qualitest, but there is no CVS even close to me. Someone please help.,as I will NEVER use Mallincrodt for a norco refill EVER AGAIN.

thanks

My two cents.

Sounds to me like more of a side effect. If you have taken norco for a while then taking two should not be a concern for overdose.

TALK TO YOUR DOC OR PHARMACIST THOUGH!

Never gotten sick from 2 Casey

I've never gotten sick from two Norco.  Ever.  I don't think it's an overdose because of your opiate tolerance.  2 Norco should not be too much for you.  I imagine that I might get a nauseas feeling on 3, just because it's too much at once, but never 2.

Sorry your question got missed.  I see a comment from you about it at the top of the thread but I read it as more of a statement instead of a question.

M's not consistant

Knight Metal, lately I am taking the M's these days unfortunately because I couldn't get the Qualitest brand. Some doses are like I haven't taken anything at all..for instance, yesterday morning I took my usual dose first thing in the morning, before breakfast, when I have the worst pain of the day..it worked better than it is working this morning..I haven't done anything different, same routine etc..I find there is no consistancy with them..its a roll of the dice..and at best I get maybe an hour or two of relief instead of  4 or 5 hours with the Qualitest..they are just not as effective.. I need to find a pharmacy that carries Qualitest so I can switch.. the pharmacy I got the Qualitest from before didn't work out for other reasons, so I went to another....too many are only carrying Mallinkrodt these days..no doubt because they are cheaper..and since they are cheaper it would figure that somehow the quality is too IMO.  My 2 1/2 cents again.

agree 100%

I know what you are going through, I went thru the same thing. All of the pharms are here were carrying WATSON, then they went to the MALLS. It really sucked, difference between night and day if you ask me, a person who has been taking Killers for over ten years (three in a row) ten off and on. Then they went back to WATSON besides ONE pharmacy in my area for about 20 miles, they went to QUALITEST! the watsons wasnt too bad, but the MALLS really bit.

I am glad for all of the people posting thier opinion on this, cause it seems that "its just not my opinion", it is ALMOST 100% of the people who responded, think there was 1 person who liked them, thats cool, as long as they work, just didnt for me.

I prefer Watson.

In regards to the original post in this thread, I recommend watson over other generic brands of norco.

Norco

hello, after my 2nd hand operation my orthopedic surgeon had me on percocet 10/325 for about a month. (i prefered the mallk, price was no issue it was workerscomp) I tried the brand name and didnt care for them. I tried the watson and also dodnt care for them. Them my dr switched me to vicodin es and the 750mg of apap was just too high always gave me a stomach ache. He then had me on 7.5/325 and I always used the watson brand which i thought were the best. I had asked the pharmacy if they could order the qualitist brand and they looked at me and gave me a song and dance saying that they have a warehouse and because it was a scheduled narcotic they had to use them first blah blah blah. And because it was workers comp if i changed pharmacies it would take 24 to 48 hours to get it approved so on and so on. I felt like the watson brand always kept the pain away and he had me on 1 to 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours and not to exceed 2 tablets every 4 hours which was 3900mg apap. I rarely had to ever take that much usually 1 every 5 hours or so, but after physical therapy I almost always had to take 2 right after. Even after they switched me to the 7.5/500 percocet, i was always givin the watson and they always seemed to do what they were supose to do. Thats my 2 cents as whatever its worth.......

I am not a medical dr

I used to argue this but..

I get 150 Norco per month for pain, and I am always recieving a different brand, I use the same pharmacy, but I think the RPh orders whatever is either availiable, or whatever is cheapest.  I have had bad experiences with all the brands, but for consistency I would have to say that the Watson 853 is the most consistent, closely followed by the Mallinckrodt 367, I am not a fan of the Vintage, but the last script I got was Qualitest and they were very fresh, or something.  Personally I have gotten to the point that I dont care what they are as long as they have the right ingredient in them.  I do prefer the M367 just because they are easier to swallow than any other pain medicine made.  Those UCB Pharma brand name Lortab™ are impossible to swallow...

Interpharm Norco

I use both Interpharm and Watson brand Norco. They are equal in strength and effect. I can't tell the difference. However sometimes I think the Interpharm (white caplet with IP 110 imprint) may be slightly stronger than the Watson. It's to close to call. I have used Qualitest Lortab and was very satisfied with it. Mallinkrodt sucks I will never use them again, might as well take advil.....

GTRPLAYER posted an FDA site

GTRPLAYER posted an FDA site and I am wondering why many think that some generic's are not as good as other's I read all the  FDA pages so now I am really confused. Many swear that some of the generic's have absolutley no pain releif (talking narcotics) as other generics. I do beleive that  there are some difference's in different generics, but not according to the FDA Ahh I give up trying to solve this one
