Poppy seeds and drug tests. Can you test positive for opiates after eating a bagel or something with poppy seeds?

Just seen this question finally proven.. and YES you can test positive.

In fact, in less than just a couple hours after eating the seeds. And it wasnt ALOT of them like people say, it was just a couple bagels.

I bet alot of people have lost their job because of this. What a deal.

All of the false-positives that have caused people to lose more than their jobs.

Yeah I've heard that too.

Yeah I've heard that too. There is even a Seinfeld episode where Elaine keeps testing positive and they can't figure out why until they realize it was some poppy seeds she ate.

Ive heard about it alot,

Ive heard about it alot, some people agreeing, some people not.

MythBusters TV show on Discovery channel finally answered it once and for all.

With taking drug tests before, and then after the consumption of some bagels w/poppy seeds. Before they were negative, after they were positive.

Apparently the seed contains codeine and morphine. Small amounts, but enough to test positive for drug tests.

Yes saw the Seinfeld episode and the mythbuster show. Even though the mythbuster episode might have not been scientific I never knew for certain, but it convinced me

So, with all the home

So, with all the home remedies people have nowadays, would that allude to eating a few bagels with poppy seeds if someone were in pain and had no tylenol or ibuprofen on hand?

Apparently it only contains

Apparently it only contains just a very small amount, so I would doubt if you would get any relief.

But maybe I guess, if you eat a bunch or something like that.

This is one of the reasons

This is one of the reasons most laboratories have increased the threshold used for determining the presence of opiates.

Cool, a question Ive done a

Cool, a question Ive done a fair amount of reasearch about. When people test positive for Opiates when they eat poppy seed containing products its because there is a very tiny amount of residule poppy plant latex (opium) that gets on the outside of the seeds. Most of the big name companies like McCormick wash there seeds before packaging, which washes off the residule opium. But a lot of the seeds that are from bulk food stores or bought wholesale by bakeries arent washed. Js57gifts Im going to send a PM about your question. Its kinda funny, Ive heard a lot of Heroin users will try blaiming Poppy Seeds for testing positive on drug tests not knowing that theres an extra metabolite thats present within the first 12hrs of heroin is being used. I think it is 6-monoacetylmorphine which isnt present with either codeine or morphine use which is what you would test positive for when you test positive after eating poppy seeds.
